"i joined new u initially for my two young boys. i wanted to get fit and healthy for them. i’ve always had back issues and was on daily pain medication. i used to think that i couldn’t exercise because of my back pain but after a few months in new u i realized that i had back pain because i wouldn’t exercise. i knew then that i had to keep going for me!my main goal was to get fit and healthy and i feel like i’m certainly on my way. the bonus was getting strong enough to come off my pain medication and losing the inches. i’ve also learned how to eat healthier, which means my entire family benefits. what kept me motivated definitely was being off my pain medication is a huge motivator but also how i feel. i physically, mentally and emotional feel better. the team at new u are also amazing. they are so genuinely concerned about your health , goals and over all well being. they cheer you on when you are doing great and are there to help you get back on track if have a few bad days or weeks. without them i couldn’t be where i’m at. my advice for anyone afraid to take the first step to get started at new u would be that if you were like me and tried other exercise or diet methods and failed then new u is for you. it’s unlike any other place or gym that i’ve been too. the staff and dedicated to helping you reach your personal goals. every workout is different so you never get bored. at first it can be difficult and the classes challenging but it is worth every moment to feel healthier and happier!"

"last summer after i turned 38, a friend and i agreed to start an exercise routine – we were going to walk/run together a few times a week. i quickly realized that i couldn’t run more than a couple of blocks at a time and neither of us seemed to have the commitment needed to help motivate each other. i was unhappy with how my clothing was fitting, how tired and unhealthy i felt, and how my weight seemed to keep creeping up… so, i set a goal to become “fit @ 40”.i had worked with alison several years earlier and had notice on facebook that she and graham had started training in listowel. after ‘creeping’ them for a while i saw their facebook posts for a free friday night run club. i went one night with my friend and had a brief conversation with alison and graham in the park. i followed online when they announced the opening of their commercial space and was excited when they advertised their first “fit & lean” program. i signed up right away… and knew i had made the best decision!so, i’m still 295 days away from my 40th birthday and now i’m 100% confident that i’ll be healthy and strong enough to do anything! my physical fitness and lack of confidence won’t be holding me back from being active! to date i have lost 35+ pounds and 6 clothing sizes. i feel strong, i know i can lift heavy things and i can even run for a while. i’m loving the progression so far! and… i think i’m only half way to where i can be by my birthday next year.everyone at new u has really been what keeps me motivated. it’s like having a private group of friends who all have similar goals and who are always supportive and fun to be around. the trainers are really approachable, knowledgeable and encouraging too. even though i like to grumble during hard classes, i really do love how they accept where each person is with their fitness and scale each exercise based on what you can do that day… this taps into my personal competitiveness and pushes me to push myself.my advice for anyone afraid to take the first steps to get started at new u personal training studio is: don’t be. if you’re ready to make a change, a real change, these are the people who can and will help you to reach your goals."

"after my third child was born 13 years ago and being overweight and diagnosed with depression i felt awful and wanted to feel better but didn't know a lot about fitness and getting back into shape and looked for an easy way to drop the weight and joined a weight loss program that over the course of a year looked at diet along with diet pills to lose the weight and not until then did things spiral out of control and i developed an eating disorder which took over my life and made the depression so much worse and my family and friends could see a lot of negative things happening to me but i didn't want to admit that i was sick. i decided to join a local gym and slowly worked with a personal trainer who got me back on the right path and taught me how to weight train and to run. a year later i was back at a healthier weight and ran my first half marathon. running changed my life and my focus on changing everything that was negative and since then have ran a few half marathons and i also do long distance cycling too. i still struggle with weight gain and have gone up and down on the scale too much. i stay focused for a while and train and lose the weight but yet gain it all back after time. this past winter was especially difficult as i just finished another half marathon and had a became a trainer and taught cycling and zumba and trained clients and was so focused on fitness when i fractured my ankle and had to stop working out all together and i became depressed and gained all the weight back again. on january 1, 2015 i ran my first mile on the treadmill in pain and was able to run a half on january 30 did i realize that i could do this again but i needed help, and this is when i reached out to alison for the first time. i knew she was a runner too and understood everything that i was going through. whether to run a mile or 26 mile and to gain 40 lbs and then lose it all again and to see yourself as fat and ugly no matter what weight you were i knew she completely understood. i had a goal of running 42km when i turned 42 and had done training before but i wanted this time to be different. the first time we met i felt that she understood and could do this for me but i never knew i would feel and look the way i do today only after a couple of months. again after losing 35lbs and losing so many inches i look and feel so different and i am proud to say i truly feel like a real athlete after training and learning so much about running form and trials and hills and sprints and weight training that i am more confident now in my own ability as a runner that i know i am a winner no matter what and alison has showed this to me in so many ways and yet this is just the beginning! i have so much to learn yet and a few more races yet to do and she has been so motivating and inspiring to show me that i can do this and make positive changes and i'm not alone!so far i have lost close to 35-40lbs and a lot of inches and i am achieving faster running results and time trials. i have noticed a more confident person, a beautiful woman emerging from a lot of hurt and an athlete that is out to do the best she can, she is capable of so much yet that this is just the beginning, the scale doesn't matter but losing inches and toning and shaping your body does and nutrition is the key to success.huge thanks to alison for the many different kinds of workouts and not one is ever the same and she pushes you beyond your limit but never to the point of discouragement. i always love learning from her and she is so genuine as a friend and trainer and motivator that she completely understands and pulls you through mentally and physically, she believes in me as a person and her training has been unbelievable. i constantly hear her voice in every treadmill or trail run to keep pushing and do my best.my advice for anyone afraid to take the first step to get started at new u is don't let anyone tell you that you can't do this and the only person that can make the changes happen is you, believe in yourself and take one day, one workout and once race at a time!"

"working with a personal trainer allows me to improve my own fitnesslevel with the encouragement and push from someone who has learnedwhat my goals are, what my potential is and my likes and dislikes are.i don't get looks from someone beside me when i am putting so muchenergy into the workout that i sweat profusely or make moaning soundswhen i am working hard. my personal trainer appreciates the sideeffects of burning energy at that level. she says, sweat is fatcrying. words like "you got this", "you can do it" keep me going toreach my personal goals of being fit, losing the middle age spread, and balancing energy and nutrition. i'm training for myself and seeit as lifelong but it helps to have support of a personal trainer."

"to be perfectly honest my wife made the decision for us to start at new u. she wanted to join something but wanted us to do it together … so here we are! the past year has shown me what a great decision that was. initially i was having issues with my shoulders and arms. my work includes having my arms above my head and i was experiencing a lot of discomfort and pain after working 8 hours or more. i can’t believe the difference a year has made. my mobility is better and the pain has subsided considerably. with our business the fall is our ‘crazy’ season. continuing with workouts and a nutrition plan helped me stay healthy and cope better with the craziness of that season. every workout is different which i like. the result has also been a lot more energy and the chance to make new connections. this year i’ve joined a soccer league and i am looking forward to the season! when you feel good the motivation is so easy! i find the early morning workouts get you motivated for the day.my advice for anyone afraid to take the first step to get started at new u is to just do it. it is not a ‘gym’ atmosphere at new u. it’s a family. everyone wants everyone to succeed at starting and maintain a healthy lifestyle. the staff are awesome and they care! you will not regret the decision. getting started is the hardest part and there will be a few workouts that leave you wondering how you are going to maneuver stairs the next day but the payoff of feeling great and looking great far outweighs that issue. it is possible to look and feel better, find more energy and get your confidence back or find a confidence you never knew you had."

"when laura first came through the doors of new u she joined the ladies only barbells group her mom had been attending and was a bit intimidated. after only a few sessions she became more confident and started loving it! her very first deadlift was 55 pounds. today, she is deadlifting a whopping 190 pounds! “i can now do a full minute plan and do 20 full body pushups!” she never goes light on the weights, she’s stronger, she’s more confident, and she’s got a “can’t stop, won’t stop” mind set that’s inspiring to be around. she’s lost more than 30 pounds and 35 inches, she eats healthy, exercises regularly and is making a huge impact on her family and her friends.“it can be very hard to stay motivated. eventually it really just comes down to how bad you want to achieve your goals. once the pounds start coming off it is easier to look at how far you’ve come and not want to go back! new u is an amazing training studio and i am so lucky to be able to attend. once you start at new u it may be hard at first, but it is so worth it.”
